What Is
Green Building?
Green building is a design and construction
practice that strives to increase the efficiency
with which buildings and their sites use and harvest
energy, water, and materials while reducing the
impacts of the building life cycle (siting, design,
construction, operation, maintenance, and removal).
Also known as sustainable or environmental
building, this practice can leads to such benefits
as: a reduced operating cost through using less
water and energy, an improved public and occupant
health due to an improved indoor air quality, and a
smaller environmental impact by minimizing storm
water runoff and the heat island effect.
