Southwest Waterfront Developer Participates in Buff and Scrub
PN Hoffman
August 18, 2008
Washington, D.C. – Members of
Hoffman-Struever Waterfront, LLC (HSW), the Master
Developer for the Southwest Waterfront, participated
in Mayor Adrian Fenty’s Buff and Scrub Initiative at
Orr Elementary School located at 2200 Minnesota
Avenue, SE.
Launched by Mayor Fenty, the
Buff and Scrub Initiative provides members of the
business community an opportunity to contribute to
the educational success and well-being of students
in the District of Columbia Public School System
through small-scale and aesthetic improvements to
the school facilities. Over $1.2 million was
contributed in the summer of 2007.
Focusing on the community
surrounding Orr Elementary, the HSW team worked with
local Community Business Enterprises (CBE). F&L
Construction, a Ward 8 CBE, assisted with carpet and
tile work and Poole and Kent donated plumbing
fixtures, installation, and repair. Natural
Resources Design, a woman-owned CBE, designed and
directed the landscaping work providing beautiful
low-maintenance plants at cost and secured the
donation of a rain barrel from the D.C. Department
of the Environment - a sustainable and educational
solution to watering the new landscaping in a
location with no ready source of water. The HSW team
worked together to landscape the campus.
“We are extremely pleased to
participate in this wonderful initiative for a
second consecutive year,” said Monty Hoffman, CEO of
PN Hoffman. “Buff and Scrub truly transforms the
schools into a welcoming environment to which
students can return following their summer
vacation.”
